We meet the delegates who have completed our MobileIron training course here at Bridgeway HQ, in Cambridge.
Configuration Analyst Lee Richards from Nuneaton undertook the Gold and Silver courses in November 2018.
Brief Career History
I started off in data entry processing Sky Sports results. I needed a new challenge so moved to IT before leaving the company and then I relocated with Howdens as Desktop support and Desktop support lead and ended up in Config.
What brought you to the MobileIron training course today?
A car! No I came to the training to back up everything I’ve learned in the past five years. I’ve never been in the system even though we have it and I’m supporting 1200 devices but it’s good to fill in the gaps and feel confident that you really know something. We inherited the system as it came in and we’ve learned a lot from Bridgeway’s support and consultancy days, so it's valuable to build on this knowledge and become an expert. It’s been really good, very useful and such a friendly atmosphere. I’ve learned a lot and I’ve come out with a couple of passes on exams so I’m happy!
How will you use MobileIron going forward?
I’ll use it to maintain what we’ve got and implement Android Enterprise. We’ve already got Apple Device Enrolment Programme and Volume Purchasing Program, which has saved us a lot of time over the past couple of years. Now hopefully we’ve got justification for Android Enterprise and find the right reasons to get Android in the business and hopefully enable users with some more cost-effective devices.
What are the biggest challenges/pain points in your role?
I think it is difficult for us with an estate of 10,000 desktops and 1200 smart devices in such a big company to create the standards we need. There’s a lot of things we’d want to do but we need to find the right requirements for the business. So many times we have found the technology but we’re looking for the reasons to use it, when really we need to find the requirements of the business first and then find the right solution fit.
What are your predictions for your role in the future?
Hopefully I’ll be architecting new solutions as new technology comes in and hopefully staying ahead of the game rather than playing catch up. Easier said then done!
What are you predictions for InfoSec?
GDPR has made life more fun for us. There’s a lot more considerations that we have to take from day to day to protect users from themselves and I think that is going to be a steep learning curve as users evolve and understand what they can and can’t do. You can’t just give someone an unlocked iPad and say well away you go, because they will get themselves in trouble without realising. It’s too easy to do and it costs companies a hell of a lot of money.
